Chapter 319: Warming the Bed

The lead soldier clearly saw Yan Xiaosi and finally relaxed.

Seeing that Yan Xiaosi was lightly dressed with a frail frame, as if a gust of wind could blow her away, the lead soldier kindly reminded her out of concern: “Military Doctor Yan, it’s windy outside in the middle of the night. You should hurry back to your tent.”

Being close to Yunluo River, the wind was indeed strong.

Earlier, Yan Xiaosi had been completely focused on using the spiritual spring water to irrigate the seedlings and hadn’t noticed at the time. Now, reminded by this soldier, she couldn’t help but shiver.

During her menstrual period, her resistance would be lower, so she couldn’t afford to catch cold.

“I take my leave.”

Yan Xiaosi cupped her hands toward the soldier, then hugged her arms tightly and walked quickly toward the commander’s tent.

When she reached outside the tent, she discovered there was lamplight inside, and her heart sank.

She had snuck out to irrigate the seedlings precisely because Long Yu was asleep and there were no guards outside the tent tonight. Now that she’d been discovered, would Long Yu give her a harsh punishment?

“Not sleeping in the middle of the night, where did you go?”

Lifting the curtain and walking in, she indeed saw Long Yu sitting upright on the couch, raising his eyebrows as he stared at her.

Seeing Yan Xiaosi walk in with her arms hugged around herself, her small face somewhat pale from the cold, Long Yu frowned and stood up, striding toward her.

“What a troublesome kid.”

While Yan Xiaosi shivered and waited for the man’s scolding, the man instead closed his mouth at that moment. Walking up to her, he looked at her helplessly and lifted her up horizontally.

Falling into a warm embrace, Yan Xiaosi immediately felt comfortable and snuggled into that warm embrace.

“Well, I went to relieve myself.”

“You know you’re cold, yet you don’t know to put on more clothes when going to relieve yourself.”

Long Yu clearly believed her words. He pulled back the bedding, gently placed her on the large bed, then covered her completely with bedding as soft as clouds.

However, Yan Xiaosi had been away from the bed for some time, so there wasn’t much warmth left in the bedding now.

She curled up in the bedding and shivered.

When Long Yu was tucking her in, he touched her ice-cold feet.

“Why are your feet so cold?”

Wearing cloth shoes and being blown by river wind outside for so long, how could her feet not be cold?

Yan Xiaosi didn’t dare say such words directly.

She smiled ingratiatingly and said: “Probably from losing too much blood. How about Your Highness warm the bed for me?”

Originally just teasing Long Yu, she didn’t expect that Long Yu would actually take off his shoes, lift the bedding, and lie down beside her.

Yan Xiaosi laid flat while Long Yu was by her side, taking a book from beside the bed and opening it.

The soft lamplight shone on the man’s face. Yan Xiaosi turned over to lie on her side facing the man. From her upward-looking angle, she could perfectly see the man’s flawless facial profile.

The man was currently wearing snow-white undergarments, his black hair loose and hanging over his shoulders, his eyes and brows gentle. He didn’t look like a general who fought on battlefields, but rather like a refined young master from a scholarly family.

Truly a feast for the eyes.

“Sleep. I’ve warmed the bed for you, then I’ll go sleep on the couch. You don’t need to worry about anything.”

Yan Xiaosi wasn’t worried at all.

Something happening with such a beautiful man wouldn’t be a loss for her either. It was just a pity that she was currently having her period.

Two quarters of an hour later, Long Yu heard even breathing beside him and put down his book.

From opening the book until now, it was still the same page.

The woman had one arm around his waist, one leg pressed on his leg, her face pressed tightly against his waist, hanging on his body like an octopus. How could he possibly calm his mind to read?

“What a troublesome kid.”

He sighed slightly, gently pried away Yan Xiaosi’s hand wrapped around his waist, and carefully positioned her to lie flat.

The bedding was already warm, and Yan Xiaosi slept extremely comfortably, her rosy cheeks like two ripe red apples.

But Long Yu was now uncomfortable all over. Looking at the girl who slept like the dead, hot blood surged restlessly within his body.

In the latter half of the night, Yan Xiaosi slept extremely well, while Long Yu went outside to be blown by river wind for half an hour, shivering all over from the cold until that restless hot blood finally cooled, before returning to the tent to rest.

The next morning.

After washing up, Yan Xiaosi prepared to accompany His Highness the War King for breakfast, feeling refreshed and energetic.

When breakfast was served, she looked up to see His Highness the War King sitting in the chair across from her with two obvious dark circles under his eyes.

“Your Highness, didn’t you sleep well last night?”

Mentioning last night made Long Yu’s fire flare up.

“You certainly slept well.”

“Your Highness, are you not used to sleeping on the couch?”

Yan Xiaosi thought this was the reason and felt quite sorry about it.

“My stomach doesn’t hurt anymore. How about we switch back tonight?”

Long Yu glanced at her with a warning look in his eyes: “If you go out to relieve yourself again at night, remember to put on more clothes. If you come back shivering again, I won’t warm your bed for you.”

Yan Xiaosi heard something off in his tone and secretly wondered: Could it be that when His Highness helped warm her bed last night, she had done something beastly to His Highness?

She racked her brains trying to remember but couldn’t figure out what had happened.

After accompanying His Highness for breakfast, Old Hu came looking for her with an excited expression.

“Military Doctor Yan, I have good news to tell you. Those yellowing seedlings are coming back to life.”

The corners of Yan Xiaosi’s eyes curved upward, showing that she was also very excited.

“Really? I haven’t even used my secret technique yet, and those seedlings have come back to life. It seems the soil along Yunluo River’s banks is fertile and suitable for growing rice.”

Long Yu looked up from his desk, his gaze scrutinizing as he glanced at her.

Old Hu glanced at the serious-faced His Highness and asked Yan Xiaosi carefully: “Military Doctor Yan, are you feeling better?”

“Much better, thank you for your concern, Old Hu.”

“Then, would Military Doctor Yan come with me to look at those seedlings?”

Although those seedlings had already come back to life, he still wasn’t entirely at ease.

People could have a final surge before death, so what if the seedlings also had such a final surge?

So he absolutely had to have Yan Xiaosi go see them personally.

Yan Xiaosi had drunk chicken soup and eaten steamed buns in the morning and felt rather stuffed, so she wanted to go out and walk off the meal.

“Your Highness, I’m going with Old Hu to look at those seedlings. Will you come?”

She was just asking casually, thinking that someone of His Highness the War King’s stature surely wouldn’t care about agricultural matters and would definitely refuse her invitation. Unexpectedly, His Highness immediately stood up and even responded with an “Mm.”

Very good, she even knew to invite him.

Long Yu’s lips curved upward as he walked out from behind his desk.

Old Hu nervously followed the two of them to the field.

When he saw the field and vegetable plots, a flash of surprise crossed Long Yu’s eyes.

He had thought the little one’s farming was just small-scale dabbling that wouldn’t amount to much, but what he saw before him was completely beyond his imagination.

There were several patches of tender yellow vegetable plots, neat and orderly, like several tender yellow carpets. If these large patches of vegetable seedlings could grow to maturity, the army would be completely self-sufficient.

Yan Xiaosi’s gaze swept around the field several times, and her heart finally settled.

After irrigating with spiritual spring water, in just one night’s time, the yellowing seedlings were gradually turning green, and those that had fallen over and looked lifeless had all stood up again.
