Chapter 293: Let’s Talk

When she opened her mouth to speak, it pulled at her wound painfully, causing her brow to furrow deeply with discomfort.

Long Yu shot her a sharp warning look like a knife’s edge.

“Shut up. Do you want to make your injuries even worse?”

“Murong you scoundrel, this king brought you here to treat this little bastard’s wounds, not to interrogate this king.”

Murong Qinjian also knew this wasn’t the time for accusations and inquiries. He nodded slightly and stepped forward to the bedside to examine Yan Xiaosi’s condition.

After examining Yan Xiaosi’s wounds, his tense expression relaxed somewhat.

Although the arrow had penetrated deeply into the wound, it hadn’t hit any vital areas. As long as they extracted the arrow and applied medicine to stop the bleeding and help the wound heal, she would be fine.

“First help him remove his clothes, then we’ll extract the arrow.”

“Give me the scissors.”

Murong Qinjian gave instructions while extending his hand toward the medical attendant beside him for scissors.

The scissors were naturally meant to cut away Yan Xiaosi’s bloodied clothing.

As a physician herself, Yan Xiaosi knew that removing the clothes would make the arrow extraction easier to perform, but if they removed her clothes, wouldn’t her gender be exposed?

“There’s no need to cut my clothes. Just extract the arrow directly.”

Murong Qinjian could see her stubborn nature and knew he couldn’t convince her himself. He looked toward Long Yu with pleading eyes, hoping Long Yu would manage this young man.

Long Yu’s face grew stern as he said coldly, “Why won’t you let us cut your clothes?”

Yan Xiaosi glanced at her blue robe that was stained with a patch of blood and made up an excuse on the spot: “This robe was the first gift Your Highness gave to this commoner. This commoner should treasure it.”

Long Yu’s stern expression softened slightly.

“If you want clothes, this king can give you more.”

“That’s not the same. This robe was the first gift Your Highness gave to this commoner. To this commoner, it has extraordinary significance. Besides, we can extract the arrow directly. Why must we cut this robe?”

Long Yu felt valued and appreciated.

“Murong Little Scoundrel, is it acceptable not to cut the clothes?”

Murong Qinjian returned the scissors to the medical attendant.

“Not cutting is fine too, it’s just that the operation will be a bit more troublesome for me.”

“Then you can be a bit more troubled. Hurry up and extract the arrow.”

Murong Qinjian: “…”

Truly valuing beauty over friendship.

During the arrow extraction process, Yan Xiaosi was in such pain that she cursed the bastard who had given her that flying kick from behind all over again.

Fortunately, when applying the medicine, Murong Qinjian didn’t ask her to remove her clothes. He only opened her collar slightly, exposing her shoulder.

Her development was poor, with no chest and no curves. Below her neck was completely flat. Aside from having skin that was somewhat more delicate than the average man’s, she looked pretty much like a man.

Long Yu stood to the side, watching as her shoulder was wrapped in thick layers of gauze. He frowned and asked Murong Qinjian, “Is this sufficient? After the wound heals, will there be any problems with arm movement?”

The War King had always been a man of few words, noble and aloof. Murong Qinjian had never seen him be so fussy before.

“With this divine physician taking action, Little Yan’s arm won’t be disabled. However, he might develop a fever tonight.”

He paused and patted Long Yu’s shoulder.

“Tonight, someone needs to take good care of Little Yan.”

“Mm.”

“Then you take good care of him. We’ll head out first.”

Murong Qinjian winked at him before waving for the medical attendants to leave.

Long Yu also dismissed the guards.

Soon, only Yan Xiaosi and him remained in the vast military tent.

Yan Xiaosi looked at the tall, imposing figure standing before the bed, feeling somewhat apprehensive.

After all, she had just told a whopping lie.

“What are you standing there for?”

Long Yu gave an irrelevant answer: “Are you hungry? What would you like to eat?”

Having lost quite a bit of blood earlier, when the War King asked this question, Yan Xiaosi did indeed feel somewhat hungry.

She licked the corner of her mouth and said, “I am a bit hungry. Is there any meat to eat?”

“You’re injured and have lost too much blood. Your body is weak right now, so you can’t eat meat.”

Yan Xiaosi: “…”

Then why did you ask what I wanted to eat? Isn’t that pointless?

“Stay here and lie down obediently. I’ll go instruct the kitchen to prepare some porridge for you.”

On this cold, dark night, drinking a bowl of warm porridge would be quite nice.

Yan Xiaosi blinked: “Alright.”

Long Yu went outside to give instructions and quickly returned to the military tent, sitting beside the bed to watch over Yan Xiaosi.

The two stared at each other for a while until someone from the kitchen brought over the warm porridge.

Yan Xiaosi originally wanted to get up and sit at the table to eat by herself, but Long Yu pushed her back onto the bed.

“Don’t get up. I’ll bring the porridge over to you.”

Yan Xiaosi leaned against the raised pillows sitting on the bed, watching the War King go to the table to serve porridge. She felt overwhelmed by such favor.

“Thank you, Your Highness.”

When Long Yu brought the porridge to the bedside, she reached out with her left hand to take it.

However, Long Yu avoided her left hand and used the spoon to scoop up a spoonful of thick porridge. He blew on it gently before bringing it to her lips.

“Sit still and don’t move. I’ll feed you.”

His voice carried an unprecedented gentleness, his movements an unprecedented patience.

Yan Xiaosi looked at him with a dumbfounded expression.

Was this still the cold and lofty War King Long Yu? Was she dreaming?

The pain from her right shoulder clearly told her this was not a dream.

“War King Your Highness, you humble this commoner too much. This commoner can manage on his own.”

“Open your mouth. You’re injured, yet you still talk so much nonsense.”

The War King’s voice suddenly became somewhat irritable. Yan Xiaosi, intimidated by his authority, could only obediently open her mouth and docilely suck the thick porridge into her mouth.

The porridge was just the right temperature, neither cold nor hot, and tasted very sweet and fragrant.

The bowl of porridge was quickly finished.

“Do you want more?”

The gentle voice sounded in her ear again.

Perhaps because she had lost so much blood earlier, it had affected her digestive function. Yan Xiaosi didn’t really want to eat anymore.

“I’m full. I don’t want any more.”

“Then lie down and rest.”

Long Yu set down the bowl and spoon. With one hand gently supporting her back and the other flattening the pillow, he slowly helped her lie down.

The military tent was dimly lit. Long Yu sat before the bed holding a military strategy book.

Yan Xiaosi wasn’t particularly sleepy and watched him for a while.

She discovered that this man looked truly handsome when seriously reading his military book, beautiful like a painting.

The dim lamplight cast itself upon the man’s body, adding a layer of radiance to him that was quite dazzling.

Sensing that two gazes had been fixed on him for quite some time, Long Yu gently placed the military book on his knee and raised an eyebrow to look at the person on the bed.

“Can’t sleep?”

Yan Xiaosi blinked and said, “Mm, it’s still early. I can’t fall asleep.”

Long Yu simply set the military book on the chair, shifted his position, and sat on the edge of the bed, even closer to Yan Xiaosi.

“Since you can’t sleep, let’s talk.”

Seeing Long Yu’s serious expression and the intense way he was looking at her, Yan Xiaosi was slightly startled.

“Talk about what?”

Long Yu suddenly bent his waist, bracing his hands on the bed board and encircling Yan Xiaosi within his embrace.

Face to face, their breaths intermingled.

“Why did you block that arrow for me?”

Thump thump, thump thump!

Yan Xiaosi felt her heartbeat obviously quicken, her breathing became labored, and her cheeks burned with heat.
